The Opening Ceremony of the Medical-informational Center for Youth Reproductive Health
On December 16 at the National Family Medicine Training Centre - EU/UNFPA co-funded project “Reproductive Health Initiative For Youth in the South Caucasus“ opened Youth Reproductive Health Medical-Information Center. The Youth Reproductive Health (RH) Center will provide young people with free RH counseling, contraceptives, affordable diagnostic and treatment, as well as wide range of information on reproductive health issues.RHIYC project aims at making sustainable improvement of reproductive health (RH) and rights of youth. One of the major objectives of the project is to improve the access of young people to youth friendly reproductive health services. In the frame of this component 16 Youth RH Medical-information Centers will be opened all over the Georgia.
Another important objective of RHIYC project is to educate and inform young people on their Reproductive Health and Rights issues through mass media. In 2008 RHIYC organized contest of journalists on best highlighting of the youth reproductive health issues. During the opening ceremony of Center the journalists, winners of the contest, will be awarded by special prizes.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Mr. George Tsereteli, Head of the Parliamentary Committee of Health and Social Issues Mr. Otar Toidze, Deputy Minister of Labour, Health and Social affairs, Mr. Mr. Per Eklund, Head of the EC Delegation to Georgia, Mrs. Tamar Khomasuridze, head of the UNFPA Georgia office, and the representatives of local and international organisations.
